Either it was a Facebook update or a hacker who hacked Facebook's site.
There are currently many shit that are scamming you.
¤ One example was the fake Facebook phishing site. If it tells you to re-log in, look at the URL to check if EVERYTHING is spelled correctly <https://www.facebook.com/>
¤ Another example is stupid groups. Those groups will have some sort of text telling you to join or go to this event where people get free iPads <http://ipads.ipad4alll.com/ man/ipad.php> (if you click on link, do not click anything else besides scrolling through comments and all)
¤ The last one I know of is Facebook directing you to some sort of page that tells you to install or download a "plug-in" (VIRUS). If you are not sure to install/download or not to install/download, Don't install or download the "plug-in"
